Walk into any kids' clothing store and you'll find the same debate parents have every summer: cotton or synthetic? The honest answer is that both have a place, but for Indian summers specifically, the fabric you pick matters more for comfort than for looks.
Why cotton wins for daily wear
Cotton breathes — it lets air move and absorbs sweat instead of trapping it against the skin, which matters a lot in humid months when kids are running around outdoors. For everyday t-shirts, shorts, and sleepwear, cotton or cotton-rich blends are almost always the more comfortable choice for extended wear.
Where synthetic actually makes sense
Synthetic and polycotton blends aren't the enemy — they hold shape better, resist wrinkling, and often survive rougher play without pilling. For structured party wear, dresses with volume, or pieces that need to hold a silhouette (browse Party Wear), a synthetic blend is often the more practical choice than pure cotton, which can look limp after a few hours.
The middle ground: polycotton
Most everyday kidswear today is actually a poly-cotton blend, not 100% of either. This isn't a compromise so much as an upgrade — blends typically combine cotton's breathability with better shape retention and shorter drying time, which matters if you're doing daily loads of kids' laundry.
What to check on the label
Rather than choosing by fabric name alone, check the blend ratio when it's listed. Anything cotton-majority (60% or higher) will generally feel and breathe closer to pure cotton. For monsoon and peak summer specifically, our Monsoon and Summer collections are curated with breathable fabrics as the priority.
A simple rule of thumb
Cotton for anything worn against skin for hours — daywear, sleepwear, innerwear. Synthetic or blends for anything structural or occasion-based, worn for shorter stretches. Following that split covers most of a child's wardrobe without needing to overthink every purchase.
